Why ‘Home’ Is More About Hearts Than Postcodes

A compelling, original post describes how “home” transcends geography — it’s where loved ones are. With humour (misadventures in subpar flats, a roommates’ spiritual durian ritual, a telepathic cat), it illustrates that shared laughter, family warmth and simple rituals — like asking “Have you eaten?” — make any place feel like home. The concluding affirmation: if you’re with those who love you, you are home — regardless of location.

Disclaimer This post is an original composition and not repurposed from external sources. While the sentiment is universal, the anecdotes, phrasing and structure are uniquely the author’s own.

📍Where You Are Isn’t as Important as Who You’re With

I’ve come to realise something simple, yet profound:

It doesn’t matter where in the world you live — whether you’re in a high-rise in Tokyo, a kampung in Brunei, a cosy flat in London or a rented shoebox in KL — if you’re surrounded by family, friends or anyone who loves and accepts you, you’re already home. 🏡❤️

We often chase places that promise more — better jobs, better weather, better views, better shopping. (Guilty of the last one. I mean… who says no to a sale at Pavilion?) But time and time again, it's the people who make a place feel like home.

💬 Funny anecdotes? Oh, I have a few.

There was that one time I moved to a place with “sea views” that turned out to be a rusty drain and someone's laundry. Another time I shared a place with a housemate who insisted on “spiritual cleansing” every time I microwaved tuna pasta. And once, I seriously considered moving back just because my neighbour’s cat liked me more than its owner. (That cat still messages me telepathically.)

But despite the odd settings and unexpected hiccups, what anchored me were the simple moments:

Evenings with friends laughing over nothing. Video calls that made 10,000km feel like 10 steps. Strangers who became family. Hugs that healed. And the familiar sound of someone asking, “Have you eaten?”

🌏✨ So here’s to wherever you are right now. If you’ve got people around you who love you, care for you and keep you grounded — you’re already home.

Because home isn’t a postcode. It’s a feeling. And if you're lucky, it's filled with laughter, inside jokes and maybe even a clingy cat or two.
