From Alive to Übermensch: One Gen-X Fan’s Concert Reflection

This post recounts a screening of G‑Dragon’s Übermensch concert film, highlighting both the spectacle and personal resonance. It captures inter-generational audience dynamics, immersive visuals (drones, robot dog, fireworks, butterflies), live band energy reminiscent of BIGBANG’s Alive tour, guest performances (CL, Taeyang, Daesung, WING) and GD’s humour, humility and reflection on his 7-year hiatus. The author draws a parallel to her own 2-year self-care sabbatical, emphasizing renewal and anticipation for BIGBANG’s upcoming comeback.

🎶✨ When Legends Collide: GD, BIGBANG & a Multi-Generational Groove ✨🎶

Just watched G-Dragon’s Übermensch concert movie and… wow. 😮 Seven years after his last world-scale solo tour, the energy is still there. I was instantly transported back to BIGBANG’s Alive concert in KL, 2012 - the fire hasn’t dimmed; it’s matured and deepened. Even the live band setup reminded me of that era - tight, dynamic and perfectly in sync with every move on stage. 🎸🥁🎹

The visuals were insane: drones weaving overhead, synchronized lighting, fireworks 💥, a robot dog 🐕‍🤖 and my personal favourite - butterflies fluttering above the stage 🦋. Every detail made the performance feel fully immersive - intimate yet larger-than-life. The dance moves? Smooth and easy to follow, expressive without being overly complicated, perfect for bopping along. 💃🕺

The sound was incredible too - crisp, balanced and powerful. GD’s vocals cut through every beat and the live band made even the cinema experience feel like a proper concert.

😂 Funny cinema moment: there were only seven of us - spanning Gen X to Gen Alpha. A Millennial couple brought their 4-year-old; the mum was rocking out with a flashlight like she was front row. A Gen Z girl came alone, fully immersed. Another couple - she bopped along, he snoozed halfway through 😴. And then there was me, the lone Gen X auntie, grooving like it’s 2012 (secretly whispering the lyrics 😅).

🎤 GD’s words hit home: “Told you I’ll be back.” He talked about the two sides of himself - G-Dragon and Kwon Ji-yong - and how he needed time to nurture both. Seven years later, he’s back, balanced, grounded and humbly hilarious - effortlessly connecting with the audience. 😄💛

He even teased that BIGBANG will have a comeback next year! 🥳 So yes, the legend continues.

🌟 Guest appearances were epic
  • CL (ex-2NE1 leader) performed “The Leaders” with GD.
  • Taeyang & Daesung joined GD for “Home Sweet Home” and “Last Dance”.
  • WING, the Korean beatboxer, performed live on “Heartbreaker”, adding an electrifying twist. 🎤🔥

💖 My personal highlights?
  • GD performing “This Love” - emotional, elevated by lights, butterflies and subtle choreography.
  • “Crooked” - full of energy and bop value, a pure sing-along delight that gets everyone moving.
  • I just wish I had the daisy lightstick 🌼 to wave along - it would’ve made the experience even more magical.
Reflecting on the concert made me think about my own self-care sabbatical (almost two years). Like GD, I’ve been tending to both sides of myself - and hopefully soon, I’ll be ready to step back into the “real” world, not as who I was, but as who I’ve become. 🌱✨

💭 Imagine this: GD’s solo showmanship, Taeyang’s soulful precision and Daesung’s raw emotion - brilliant individually, explosive together. BIGBANG’s synergy proves that true artistry and true healing, transcend time, trend and generation.

🎵 Whether you’re Gen X, Millennial, Gen Z or even Gen Alpha - there’s something here to bop along with, smile at and maybe even cry over. Music really is the ultimate multigenerational connector. 🌏💖

❓ Question for you: Which BIGBANG or GD song hits you hardest live? Or who would you bring to a multi-generational concert like this?
