Once Gone, Forever Lost: Four Lessons in Mindfulness

The post is based on a widely known proverb about four irreversible things — actions, words, missed opportunities and time. While the quote itself is not original, this version is unique due to its personal insights and humor.

🌿 Four Things You Can Never Take Back – A Gentle Reminder from Life’s School of Hard Knocks

Life has a funny way of teaching us lessons — sometimes with a gentle nudge, other times with a flying slipper of regret. One timeless truth I’ve come to embrace is this:

**Four things that can never be recovered:
  • The stone after it’s thrown,
  • The word after it’s spoken,
  • The occasion after it’s missed,
  • And the time after it’s gone.**
Let’s unpack this with a little wisdom… and a pinch of humour.

The Stone After It’s Thrown 💔

Ever tried to apologize to a window after breaking it with a stone? Yeah, doesn’t work. Whether it’s a harsh action or a poorly thought-out decision, once it leaves your hands, the impact is real — and often irreversible. (Looking at you, impulse online shoppers who “accidentally” ordered 12 packs of cat toys. Yes, that was me.)

The Word After It’s Spoken 🗣️

Words are like toothpaste — once they’re out, good luck putting them back in the tube. I once told someone “happy birthday” on the wrong day with so much confidence, they doubted their own birth certificate. Harmless? Sure. But some words carry more weight. Choose kindness, always.

The Occasion After It’s Missed 🎉

“I’ll go next time,” I said. Spoiler alert: there wasn’t a next time. Whether it’s a reunion, a chance to say goodbye or just showing up for someone — we don’t always get a second shot. Life rarely hands out reruns.

The Time After It’s Gone ⏳

Time is a sneaky thing. One moment you’re sipping kopi at your favourite café, and the next you’re wondering where your 20s went. Don’t wait for the “perfect” time — it doesn’t exist. Use the good cups, wear the nice shirt, say what needs to be said.

In Conclusion

Life’s full of moments that slip through our fingers if we’re not careful. So throw fewer stones. Speak with care. Show up. And treasure your time — it’s the one currency we can’t earn back.

If this made you smile, nod or reflect… that’s time well spent. 💬✨
