West Coast Eagles have always embodied teamwork, and their premiership wins in 1992, 1994 and 2006 proved that success is built on unity. The recent loss of Adam Hunter and Troy Selwood makes this reflection even more poignant. Hunter’s 2006 heroics and the Selwood brothers' legacy remind us why footy is more than a game — it’s about passion, resilience and camaraderie. While I’ve been out of touch with footy since 2020, WCE will always be my club, and my 2006 scarf remains a treasured reminder of that unforgettable win.

Teamwork Wins Flags: The heart of a champion beats as one
The West Coast Eagles (WCE) have always been my team, not just because of their victories but because of how they played as a team. More than individual brilliance, it was TEAMWORK that defined their greatest premiership wins in 1992, 1994 and 2006. These three teams embodied selflessness, resilience and unity, proving that a team-first mentality wins flags.
1992 Premiership 🦅🏆 – The first non-Victorian team to win the AFL premiership. It was a collective effort, from Peter Matera’s electric runs to John Worsfold’s leadership. Every player knew their role and played for each other.
1994 Premiership 🏆 – A dominant season capped off by another all-in team performance. Dean Kemp, Glen Jakovich, and Ashley McIntosh stood tall, but it was the seamless teamwork across all lines that made the Eagles unstoppable.
2006 Premiership 🏆 – One of the most intense Grand Finals in history. The midfield (Judd, Cousins, Kerr, Cox) was legendary, but it was the effort from every player — Chick’s smother, Hunter’s match-winning goal, Glass’s defensive grit — that sealed the one-point win over Sydney.

That team-first mentality is why I’ll always be hardcore WCE. Watching those teams taught me that footy isn’t just about star players — it’s about trusting your teammates, lifting each other up and fighting for the jumper.
But this week has been a tough one for footy fans. The passing of Adam Hunter and Troy Selwood hit hard.
Adam Hunter was more than just a premiership hero — he was a selfless player who could play anywhere, stepping up in big moments, like that famous 2006 goal that sealed our flag. His loss is heartbreaking.
Troy Selwood, who played for Brisbane Lions, was part of the legendary Selwood family, known for their hard work and leadership. His brothers — Joel (Geelong), Scott (WCE), and Adam (WCE) — each left a strong mark on the AFL.
Their legacy reminds me why I love this game. It’s not just about winning — it’s about the brotherhood, the passion and the team-first culture that WCE has always stood for.
While I’ve been out of touch with footy since 2020, my blue and gold 2006 premiership scarf, safely stored away, will always remind me of that one-point victory, the roar of the crowd and the spirit of a team that never gave up.
No matter where life takes me, WCE will always be my club. 💙💛
