✨ Cute = Ugly But Adorable ✨
Back in 1987, at WAIC, my Year 11 collage mate Lionel Yapp coined this gem of a phrase. 😄 Lionel, small in stature but huge in personality, always had us girls in stitches with his funny bone and easy-going charm. Naturally, we’d call him cute — and his classic comeback? This line.
It stuck with me. Whenever I hear “cute,” I don’t just think prettiness — I think quirks, oddities and that heart-melting charm that makes someone unforgettable. 💖
Funny how words from people who leave your life can linger in the best way. Lionel moved colleges in Year 12 and we lost touch, but I still think of him every time I quote this.
So next time something — or someone — makes you smile despite its little imperfections… remember: cute isn’t perfect, it’s perfectly endearing.
