A Nation’s Prayer: Supporting the Sultan Through Surgery

A Prayer for His Majesty

Today, I’m quietly thinking of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah as he undergoes knee replacement surgery.

It’s a simple reminder that, regardless of status or title, we’re all human. Even someone who carries the weight of a nation can still be a person facing a moment of vulnerability.

In Brunei, His Majesty represents more than leadership - he represents continuity, stability and a shared identity. When he faces a health challenge, it touches all of us. The prayers and well-wishes we send aren’t just a formality. They are genuine, heartfelt expressions of care, respect and gratitude.

This moment also makes me pause and think about how quickly life can change. A normal day can turn into something uncertain. But in that uncertainty, we have a choice: to come together, offer support and hold on to hope.

So today, I’m sending my prayers and best wishes for:
  • A successful surgery
  • A smooth recovery
  • Strength, comfort and peace
  • Continued wisdom and good health for His Majesty
May his recovery be swift and may we all feel a little more united in hope.
